Irrigation officers directed to overcome water theft


Secretary Irrigation and MD PIDA Malik Hassan Iqbal has directed the field officers to take consolidated measures for overcoming water theft across the province. Water theft is a heinous crime which affects agri-production, it is important to ensure equitable distribution of water, he added. He stated this while presiding over a meeting held to review departmental performance at Irrigation Department Headquarters. Additional Secretary (Operation) Malik Saleem, Additional Secretary (Technical) Khalid Hussain Qureshi, Chief Monitoring Habib Ullah Bodla, Chief Engineer Irrigation (Lahore Zone) Nazir Anjum, Director Reforms Aamir Khan, General Manager PIDA Afzal Anjum Toor and senior field officers were present on the occasion.

Secretary Irrigation directed the officers to further activate the system of action on the complaints of water theft so that problems of the farmers could be resolved on priority basis. Immediate implementation should be ensured on the complaints received on toll free number 0800-11333 of Irrigation Department, he added. He said performance of all the field officers should be reviewed in the monthly meetings and strict action be taken against those showing negligence.
