Breach in canal inundates crops, localities

Sugarcane, cotton crops and some localities were inundated when a 100-feet wide breach developed in Aab-e-Hayat canal at chak 5-P in the wee hours of Tuesday. The canal water entered into Chak 5-P, Basti Haji Akbar Ali Bhular, Basti Laran, Dewan Khoha and various other localities of Mauza Wahi. On information, chief engineer Bahawalpur canal Malik Khurshid uz Zaman and MPA Chaudhry Muhammad Ijaz Shafi rushed to the spot and ordered to plug the breach. The chief engineer said that strict action would be taken against the responsible officers of the department. Meanwhile, scores of people from affected localities staged a protest demonstration against the canal department and demanded the authorities concerned to plug the breach and compensate their loss.
