Why harvesting time of jute is so important?

Jute is one of the main crop of indian sub continent area. Because it is one of the most important cash crop of India and Bangladesh. It is called golden fiber of Bangladesh. More than 80% of the total production of world of jute is done by India and Bangladesh.

Jute is mainly a crop of rain feed area and jute requires little amount of fertilizer to grow. Jute is mainly cultivated for it's fiber which come from it's stem and ribbon ( outer stem of jute ). Jute has various uses such as jute is used to make chief cloth, sacks, bags, best quality industrial yarn, fabric, net etc.

Jute is biodegradable so it is very much environment friendly. So scientist are suggesting us to use jute made products such as jute made bags. Because plastic bag or this type bags are not biodegradable and causes many hazard and causes pollution. But other hand, if we use jute made bag, it dose not pollute the environment as it is biodegradable.

So we must encourage farmer to grow jute.

Harvesting time of jute is very important for getting better fiber from jute. We have to consider the of jute harvesting and we must be conscious about it. We can get higher fiber yield if we harvest jute lately, but the quality of jute fiber will not be better. Because jute fiber become coarse and hard and cutting may also develop at the base of the stem. Cutting make the jute fiber hard, soily and unusable which are not desirable. So we should harvest jute from start of flowering to fruit formation stage ( 120-135 days after sowing). Sometimes urgent harvest may be needed if there is a possibility of heavy rain or flood. Normally corchorus are harvested during July - August and olitorius Aug-Sept.
