House Agriculture Committee Detail
A derivatives expert from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is joining the staff of the House Agriculture Committee, Dow Jones Newswires reported December 21.
Ryan McKee, who dealt with the business impact of derivatives regulations at the Chamber of Commerce, will be responsible for liaising with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as it develops new rules regarding the commodity derivatives trade.
Just last week, the CFTC proposed that commodity-derivatives speculators be subject to position limits. Banks hedging commercial risk on behalf of their clients would, however, be able to keep separate books for themselves and their clients under the proposal.
In a sign that the commodity-derivative rule overhaul is contentious even among the CFTC's five commissioners, the commission opted to delay a vote that would release the proposed rule changes for public comment – so the rulemaking process will continue for some time. The CFTC's next rule-related meeting will take place on January 13.
